Teachers, mentors, those who've shaped
the life of one writer --- Crescent Dragonwagon --- profoundly |
Who makes us what we are?
Who teaches by challenge, and who by encouragement?
Who makes us strong by giving us hope, or by removing illusion? |
 |
| Although CD has little conventional education, being a
tenth grade drop out, she is fortunate in having had outstanding
real-life mentor/teachers. This page is in process. Simply click on
highlighted names to learn more. |

Writer-editor
Charlotte
Zolotow
is Crescent's mother. In honor of her 85th birthday, CD put
up a site for her. She mentored countless authors, many of whom have
contributed to the site.

The late Hollywood biographer and magazine
article-writer Maurice Zolotow was A) irrepressible,
B) Crescent's father, and C) a huge influence on her. (Maurice, as Fine
Young Dude and tortured author of the 30's, pictured above at top of page). |

Artist, jewelry-maker, teacher, fearlessly original thinker, brilliant
designer, passionate wife, nature spirit, Ozark native, and adventurer, Elsie
Freund has never stopped journeying and pushing herself onward.
(Left, she critiques some of
Ned's
drawings
as CD looks on.) |
| Painter, teacher, social activist, devoted and passionate husband,
spiritual seeker, the late Louis Freund lived the quote he carried in his
wallet: "Confidence, like art, never comes from having all the answers;
it comes from being open to all the questions." (Right, a woodcut of a log cabin in Vander, Arkansas, 1936, by
artist Louis Freund, who was then at work on documenting the vanishing
architecture of the Ozarks as part of the Depression era-WPA.)

| Therapist David Schnarch's
paradigm-shifting views of intimacy and relationships fly in the face of almost
everything you've seen, read, heard, or believed about what living on this earth
with other people is for and like and how it is done... yet from the first
moment's contact, it offers a powerful and life-changing " Ah-HAH." |
